"Using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30 prevents signs of ageing like fine lines, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. Sunscreen is also vital to protect against risk factors that can lead to skin cancer.
When choosing a sunscreen, look for the following characteristics:
- Broad-spectrum: protects against UVA and UVB rays
- Water resistant: no sunscreen is "water-proof". A "water resistant" product lasts up to 40 minutes and "very water resistant" up to 80 minutes in water
- SPF: an SPF of 30 or higher is recommended daily, even in the winter
- Active ingredients: UV-reflective protection found in Zinc Oxide, Homosalate and Octisalate plus non-irritating, anti-inflammatory ingredients
