Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin is a perplexing condition that can be influenced by a variety of factors and can be characterised by burning, stinging, itching, tenderness and redness. The root cause of sensitive skin is usually due to a compromised stratum corneum permeability barrier - the skin’s main defence from outside environmental factors and a major part of its structure. Harsh cleansers, toners and physical exfoliation products should be avoided. Ingredients such as retinoids, glycolic acids, acidic antioxidants and perfumes carry enhanced risks of irritation in those with sensitive skin.
